Joseph A. Mulherin (aka, “Muldoon”), grew up in Foxboro, MA, and currently lives in Hatfield, MA. He signed up for the U.S. Marine Corps at age 16 (with some help from his friends), and discovered he was not the only underage recruit at boot camp on Parris Island, SC.

Joe began his Vietnam tour early in the conflict, in May 1963, following stints in Puerto Rico, Cuba and Iwakuni, Japan, with the 2nd Marine Air Wing. He served as a steward cook for the officers mess and also ran the BOQ (Bachelor Officers Quarters) in the French Quarters at Da Nang Air Base.

Joe was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal E-4. He has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1964 and was the first Vietnam vet accepted into Hatfield American Legion Post 344, and is a past Commander there.

*Songs that most remind Joe of his time in Vietnam come from movies of the 1960s and '70s.
